With the adhesive tabs in the box, a properly sized and prepped press-on lasts 10 to 14 days. With nail glue, two to three weeks. With no prep, three days, which is where most bad reviews of press-ons come from. The nail is the same in all three cases. The difference is what you did in the ten minutes before you put it on.
The five-step routine that gets two weeks
- Push back your cuticles and buff the surface of each nail lightly. You are removing shine, not thickness.
- Wipe every nail with the alcohol pad and do not touch them again. Oil from your fingertips is the single biggest reason press-ons lift.
- Size each nail from the kit before you apply anything. Slightly small beats slightly big; a wide nail sits on skin and lifts. The sizing guide covers it.
- Press from the cuticle outward and hold 15 seconds. Hard. The bond forms under pressure, not over time.
- No water for the first hour. Showers, dishes and hand washing all wait.

Tabs or glue
Both are in the box. Tabs are what we recommend for most people: 10 to 14 days of wear, and the set comes off clean in warm soapy water with no damage, so you can reuse the nails with fresh tabs and change looks every two weeks. Glue gets you to three weeks and a bond that survives the gym and gardening. Use one dot on your natural nail and one on the back of the press-on, press for 15 seconds, and treat it as a single wear: removal is a soak in warm water, lifting from the sides with the cuticle stick, and the nail is not reusable afterwards. One look for a wedding week, glue. Rotating colours, tabs.
What shortens wear
Hot water in the first day. Long soaks in a bath or pool any day. Using nails as tools: opening cans, scraping labels. Cuticle oil or hand cream right before application. Nails that were too wide to begin with. And filing the tip after application instead of before, which cracks the bond at the free edge.
Signs it is time
A visible gap at the cuticle as your natural nail grows, usually around day 12 to 14. A tip that lifts when you press it. Once one lifts, take them all off and start a fresh set rather than re-gluing one, because water has already got under the others.
Taking them off without damage
Soak your hands in warm soapy water for 10 minutes, then lift gently from the side with the cuticle stick. Never pull from the tip. If a nail resists, soak longer; forcing it takes a layer of your natural nail with it. Buff off any tab residue and you are ready for the next set.
