Yes. You can shower, wash your hands, do the dishes and swim with press-on nails on, as long as you wait one hour after applying them. Both the adhesive tabs and the glue in a VitaNails box finish bonding in that first hour; after that they are water resistant for normal daily use. What shortens wear is not water, it is long hot soaks: a 40-minute bath, a hot tub, or a sink full of dishes every night without gloves.
The first hour
This is the only hard rule. Tabs are pressure-sensitive film and glue is cyanoacrylate; both reach full strength over roughly an hour. Water in that window creeps under the edge before it is sealed and the nail never fully seats. Apply your set after the shower, not before, and not right before washing your hair.
Showers and hand washing
Fine. Warm water for a few minutes at a time does not loosen a seated tab or a cured glue bond. Pat your hands dry rather than rubbing with a towel, and avoid picking at the cuticle edge when the nails are wet, which is when any adhesive is at its softest.
Swimming
Pool, lake and sea are all fine for a swim. Chlorine does not dissolve either adhesive. The thing to watch is time: an hour in the pool softens the bond the same way a long bath does. Dry your hands when you get out. If you are on a beach holiday for a week and in the water every day, use glue for that set.
Dishes, cleaning and the gym
Hot water plus detergent plus scrubbing is the one everyday combination that takes days off a set. Gloves solve it. The gym is fine; sweat is not a problem for either adhesive, but gripping a bar with long nails can lever a tip, so medium length for training. For anyone whose job soaks their hands all day, use glue and expect two weeks rather than three.
What to do if a nail lifts after water
Dry the nail and the press-on, wipe both with alcohol, apply a fresh tab or a dot of glue, press for 15 seconds, and keep that hand dry for an hour. There are spare tabs in every box, and with 32 nails in 16 sizes there is a spare nail in your size too.
